Shared parental leave

Shared parental leave

Equality at home needs to start right at the beginning of a child’s life. Families are all different and should be able to decide themselves how they share leave after a baby is born.

There’s a new system of shared parental leave which lets parents share all but two weeks of their parental leave however they choose. WE are asking all employers to match that and make sure they, too, offer equal leave to men and women.

But if we want truly shared parenting – right from the start – the country needs to go further. International evidence shows it’s really important increase the amount of “use it or lose it” leave for fathers or co-parents.  Otherwise the stigma and cost of taking time away from work remain too big a barrier.

Sign our petition for an extra “daddy month” for fathers and co-parents, to be taken any time in the first year of a child’s life.
