WE Can Tower Hamlets!
On Wednesday March 29th at 7pm, we're going to host the very first Tower Hamlets WE branch meeting.
Tower Hamlets has a long and proud history of feminism. Our neighbourhood was the birthplace of Mary Wolstencroft and then home to the radical East London Federation of Suffragettes led by Sylvia Pankhurst.
Today we may be one of the world's most racially diverse areas, with world headquarters of global financial businesses, employing some of the highest paid workers in London, but Tower Hamlets still faces the same problems it had 100 years ago.
Tower Hamlets has:
- some of the worst health scores in the UK and the worst score for women’s health expectancy
- some of the worst overcrowding in the country and a severe shortage of social housing
- the highest proportion of children in poverty of any local authority in the UK
- the 2nd highest unemployment rate in London
All issues that we know effect women the hardest.
That's why we want to start a Women's Equality Tower Hamlet Branch.
Let's keep the amazing momentum from January's Women's March going - together we can fight these issues and the many other issues that hold us back from having gender equality. WE will need to act to put gender equality at the top of the political agenda and to ensure that fear is met with unity and hope.
