Exciting news! Plus our International Women's Day event SUNDAY 12th!
4th March
Hello
I'm delighted to tell you that the Basingstoke and North East Hants Green Party have decided not to contest the local elections on 4th May in Hatch Warren and Beggarwood ward, and are instead endorsing my candidacy!
This is partly in recognition of my work on green issues and commitment to climate activism both alongside and as part of my work with WE. Both WE and the local Greens know that there's lots of overlap in our goals, as climate justice and gender justice have huge amounts in common and the solutions often lie together. We also both understand the importance of smaller, independent parties who are willing to put aside tribal nonsense and work collectively and collaboratively to forge solutions to our problems, locally and nationally. I'm honoured to have their endorsement for me to be your new Borough Councillor for Hatch Warren and Beggarwood.
Also - together with the local Green Party, WE are holding a Care Cost Awareness event on Sunday 12th March for International Women's Day! You can see all the details here and on the attached poster.
We want you to pop along to Eastrop Park on Sunday and write your care cost numbers on our display. This vital infrastructure is almost always overlooked in Government policy making, and we want to highlight exactly how that affects Basingstoke residents' pockets. If you can't make it on the day, reply now with your care costs and we'll add them to the display for you!
Let's underline exactly why Basingstoke deserves leaders that will put childcare, elder care and social care at the heart of their policy making.
Our teams have been canvassing relentlessly over the last few weeks and will continue to do so throughout Spring. If you see us, do say hello. And please take a moment to get your friends and families in the ward to sign up to this newsletter at womensequality.org.uk/basingstoke - we have an excellent chance of winning the election this year and bringing a fresh, independent and equality-focused lens to local politics but need everyone's help getting the word out!
Happy International Women's Day to you all. I hope to see some of you on Sunday, and more of you on your doorsteps in the coming days and weeks!
