WE Barnet are delighted to welcome two Guest Speakers - Katherine O'Brien, Head of Media and Policy Research at The British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) and a representative from The London-Irish Abortion Rights Campaign (LIARC).
As 2017 is the 50th anniversary of the Abortion Act, and given WE's involvement in the campaign for decriminalisation, Katherine will talk about the challenges we are facing at the moment politically and the prospect for reform across the UK. WE Barnet branch leader, Anne Phillips, was successful at WE's recent party conference in committing the party to adopting the decriminalisation of abortion in the UK.
The aims of LIARC is to bring people in London together to campaign for free, safe, legal abortion by fundraising, lobbying, direct action, establishing partnerships with relevant people and organisations in the UK and building awareness through media and communication to call for the repeal of the 8th amendment from the Irish constitution and campaigns for access to free safe legal abortion in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
