WE Barnet hosts: Domestic Abuse & The Family Courts

Domestic Abuse And The Treatment Of Mothers & Children Behind The Closed Doors Of The Family Court

Domestic Abuse And The Treatment Of Mothers & Children Behind The Closed Doors Of The Family Court

  • A woman in the UK is killed by a current or former partner every 4 days

  • 1.6 million women suffered a range of domestic abuse in 2019

  • The Home Office estimates the cost of domestic abuse at a staggering £66 billion annually

Insufficient awareness of the issue leads to many cases not being identified or reported. An institutional refusal to address the issue leads to many cases not being prosecuted effectively.

 Anne Neale, panellist

from Legal Action for Women, a grassroots anti-sexist, anti-racist legal service for all women. LAW co-ordinates Support not Separation, which campaigns to end the unwarranted and damaging separation of children from their mother or primary carer. This includes where children are removed from mothers on the order of the Family Court, to be placed with, often, abusive fathers.
