Hello Friend
October is Black History Month and we would like to quote Audre Lorde to introduce our branch meeting Being a Race Equality Ally Please join us at 11.30am on Saturday 23rd October.
“When we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard or welcomed. But when we are silent, we are still afraid. So it is better to speak.”
Becoming a Race Equality Ally means that you move from being a passive observer to active participant; helping to build a fairer world.
What lights your fire about WEP?
Which of our policy areas is most important to you? Equal representation, pay, health, parenting, education, equality in the media, ending VAWG, the Doughnut Economy? Tell us what you are most passionate about and we will add your input to our campaigns. You can reply to this email or answer our Member online survey here.
Last few weeks of our petition – please sign and share!
Did you know that if someone sexually or racially (or for any other reason) harasses or abuses a colleague at work, they can be sacked, but local Councillors have no sanction for any behaviour towards other Councillors, Council Officers, or the Public? We have started a petition to get the law changed, and there are just a few weeks to go! Please sign and share our Petition to Legislate to enable Councillors to be disqualified or suspended for poor conduct. Thank you.
And finally,
We are celebrating International Men’s Day on Wednesday 17th November with an evening Zoom get-together, starting at 8pm. We have some interesting and committed men coming to speak who have campaigned for gender equality, so put the date in your diary and invite family, colleagues and friends especially the men. Because Men can be Feminists too!

Thank you for continuing to support equality!
