Theresa May has called a snap General Election and taken almost everyone by surprise. The Women’s Equality Party relishes this opportunity to take on the traditional parties in an Election. WE are a Political Party, and that is a large part of what WE do. You can see our Leader Sophie Walker’s response HERE
For the Party at both National and Local level, the General Election is a priority and of course that means that for the next two months some things have to be put on hold. There will be no Party Leader election during that period, and at local level there will be no Lothian branch officer elections during that time either.
In the last Scottish Parliament Elections WE in Lothian generated nearly 4,000 votes and polled better than all the other ‘new’ parties put together. WE are growing in strength and visibility as a Party, and WE in Scotland want to see that reflected in the General election results.
WE are our members. YOU are the Party. And WE can only do this if members can come forward NOW and commit to helping the Women’s Equality Party in Lothian make its presence felt in the General Election.
Volunteers do not have to have experience, do not have to commit to full-time volunteering, but do have to commit some time to do something.
WE in Lothian need:
- Candidates for the General Election (you need to apply for this NOW, not tomorrow, NOW)
- People to hand out leaflets on the streets.
- People to spread the word on Social media.
- People to organise local meetings.
- People to help get the vote out on Election Day.
- People to raise money for leaflets and expenses (it costs £500 just to enter one candidate for the elections)
If WE do not have people to do these things, WE in Lothian will not be able to run anything more than a token election, and perhaps will not be able to run at all.
YOUR PARTY NEEDS YOU!
We are having an open meeting for all volunteers in AKVA in Edinburgh on Saturday from 6-8pm.
Please come along with any questions.
