Please join us at our bi-monthly MVAWG campaign catch-up. We will be updating each other on progress from our last meeting and planning our next steps and rolling out initial campaigns.
This week we will be launching our new Yarn Bombing initiative as part of our MVAWG campaign. We will be using this week’s MVAWG meeting on Saturday morning to meet and make knitted pompoms which we will then distribute in targeted locations throughout the borough to highlight places where the women of Lambeth have experienced violence and harassment.
Yarn bombing or yarnstorming / guerrilla knitting is type of street art or graffiti that has historically been used by artists and activists to send public political and social messages. Yarn bombing aims to shift the negative stereotype of graffiti away from vandalising and into a warmer, more positive community messaging of inclusion and motivation for a shared cause.
WE are hoping to shine a spotlight on violence in the area, while creating a space for a creative and cathartic outlet in the team. No need to bring anything, just come join us to knit up a storm!
