"This was never the story of one woman, or two. It was the story of them all . . ."
Leeds Branch of the Women's Equality Party will be holding the next in our series of 'Culture Club', our regular book and film discussion group, on 26th November 2020 at 19:30 online via Zoom.
Our book for this evening is A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes:
In the middle of the night, a woman wakes to find her beloved city engulfed in flames. Ten seemingly endless years of conflict between the Greeks and the Trojans are over. Troy has fallen.
From the Trojan women whose fates now lie in the hands of the Greeks, to Penelope awaiting the return of Odysseus, to the three goddesses whose feud started it all, these are the stories of the women embroiled in the legendary war.
Powerfully told from an all-female perspective, in A Thousand Ships Natalie Haynes puts the women, girls and goddesses at the centre of the story.
We will also be discussing the Netflix film, Enola Holmes.
A Sherlock Holmes spinoff, this time with a feminist take starring Millie Bobby Brown. While searching for her missing mother, intrepid teen Enola Holmes uses her sleuthing skills to outsmart big brother Sherlock and help a runaway lord.
You are welcome to join us, whether or not you have read the book or watched the film.
