Elections
When the Women’s Equality Party runs in elections, WE hold other parties to account for their policies on equality at the ballot box. When our candidates stand, other political parties have to listen because it will cost them votes and seats if they don't act.
Where ever we stand we win
In the general election we were represented by four incredible campaigners, and survivors of male violence, who challenged MPs who had unresolved allegations of violence or harassment against them. By taking on these MPs at the ballot box we broke the conspiracy of silence in Westminster and showed the old parties that they would suffer political consequences for ignoring harassment and abuse from their colleagues.
Not one of the MPs we challenged was reelected. And Parliament has since introduced our central demand for the campaign - making MPs found guilty of harassment or abuse eligible for recall by their constituents.
Our representatives
In 2019 we won our brilliant candidate Kay Wesley won our first local council seat in Congleton East and shows just how much one person can achieve with drive and a collaborative approach to politics. From establishing a new domestic abuse clinic, to improving public transport and strengthening community services Kay has shown just how powerful a feminist voice in local Government can be. Four years later Kay Wesley was reelected alongside our amazing new Councillor Susan Mead .
During 2024 local elections candidate Stacy Hart took the Hatch Warren and Beggarwood polls by storm winning our first borough council seat and beating the Conservatives with a 59.3% vote share, and Sarah Jane Pattison was elected in Stinsford.
Time and again we’ve shown that equality can win.
When a general election was called WE were ready. At a time when inequality is deepening, poverty is skyrocketing and vital public services have been driven to the brink our party has never been more needed.
The old political parties, whose failings drove us here, lack the will and ambition to change it. We need big, bold ideas to deliver the kind of change we need to reverse this. WE are the party to deliver it.
