WE stand with the “silence breakers” celebrated today.

A Women's Equality Party spokesperson said:
“The Women’s Equality Party congratulates and stands with those chosen as TIME Magazine’s Persons of the Year, the “Silence Breakers”.
“The women and men named – along with thousands of others who joined in with the #MeToo campaign – have shone a spotlight on injustices experienced every day by women from all walks of life.
“Their stories capture how common sexual harassment is, the pain and difficulty it causes the victims, and the energy of the movement that is coming together around the world, spurred by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein but going far beyond that, to fight back and demand change to the structural imbalances that enable this culture.
"The movement must also reflect the experiences of the most marginalised, who are often not in a position to speak out.
“Ironically, one of our founders, Catherine Mayer, is now suing TIME Magazine for sex and age discrimination. Her lawyer is Ann Olivarius, WE founding member, and Ann’s firm, McAllister Olivarius, also represents two of the women named as TIME’s Persons of the Year -- Jessica Cantlon and Celeste Kidd, professors at the University of Rochester who have brought a legal action against it arising out of sexual harassment.
“WE admire the willingness of all of them to “break the silence”.”
