Statement from Sophie Walker, Leader of the Women’s Equality Party, on Westminster shooting

Published 22 March 2017

I am appalled and deeply saddened to hear of the attacks on Parliament today, and speak on behalf of all members of the Women’s Equality Party in saying that our thoughts are with those who were injured in this shocking attack, as well as their family and friends. I would like to express immense thanks to the police and security forces, who risk their lives for the safety of us all, and to the NHS and frontline staff who are working to help the victims and their families.

An attack on Parliament is an attack on our democracy and freedoms and that is something we can never stand for. Today is a timely reminder of how fragile democracy can be but also how resilient our values are when we stand together.
