Hands off our bodies

Women’s rights are under attack around the world and Donald Trump is leading the assault.

As our government receives Trump on an official state visit, sign this petition to send a message that his hatred and misogyny is not welcome in our country.

The US president once boasted that his fame meant he could kiss women without asking and “grab them by the pussy”. At least 23 women have accused him of sexual assault or harassment, ranging from groping to attempted rape. Trump’s response - that the women accusing him were not attractive enough to be worth assaulting - shows his total lack of respect for our bodies, rights and freedoms.

In power he has continued his assault on women’s bodies, presiding over law changes that limit women’s reproductive rights, packing federal courts with anti-choice judges (including one who has also been accused of assault by multiple women) and slashing funding to overseas organisations for even discussing abortion.

The United States is the world’s biggest exporter of ideas. What Trump says and does matters everywhere and his sexism has empowered regressive politics at US state level and globally. This month near total bans on abortion have been passed in Alabama and Louisiana, with sixteen other states now seeking to impose new restrictions. Meanwhile the rise of the far-right across Europe has seen reproductive rights threatened in Italy and Austria and further restricted in Poland. Women in Malta, Gibraltar and Northern Ireland are already denied the basic human right to free, safe and legal abortions.

Now is the time to take a stand against men like Trump, not legitimise his dangerous and damaging agenda with a state banquet.

Last July, 250,000 people took to the streets of London to oppose his first official visit to the UK. Thousands more will protest this time.

Sign our petition to stand with them and send Trump a message: Hands off our bodies!
