I find it quite difficult to write my story. However I have read about 10 of the more famous feminist books. A lot of men have issues with the uber-masculine culture. I just finished reading a book called “The Confidence Code – the art and science of self –assurance, what women should know” and I found it very helpful. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Confidence-Code-Science-Self-Assurance-What/dp/006223062X) I believe that when women are released from the prison of society’s expectations and stereotyping then men will be able to escape from a similar prison (going from memory I think that Germaine Greer says this in The Female Eunuch).

When I was 6 I insisted on being called George and being seen to be a boy. I was a misogynist. I hated that in all the stories - books, films and TV programmes, women and girls were the sickly, the carers, the cooks and ALWAYS (even the wonderful Cally in Blake 7) being rescued by men and boys. I wanted to be the rescuer, the hero of my story, and how on earth could I do that as a girl? Now of course I am proud of my gender and of all the women who have fought, often literally, for my right to vote, work, be respected and live safely. But WE have so much more to do. I am so excited that WE are a political party striving to release everyone from the confines of gender stereotypes, and allow all people to realise their full potential without being shackled to outmoded and repressive notions of gender.

I don't want to fight for anything, I don't want to smash anything, I'm not angry... I don't have any daughters that I want to protect or make a better world for. It's really shouldn't have to be that difficult - inequality just doesn't make sense in an intelligent society.

In a balanced argument u need to hear both sides of the story, although women are beginning to rise to positions of power they have had to become more like men, we need more women who are proud to be women and men that celebrate the difference

We should be much further on than we are in terms of equality. Some of the attitudes I encounter in the media, online and in person make me question whether the year is actually 2015. It can be exasperating and needs to change.

When I return to work part-time after having a child my career was over. I was sidelined, undermine, bullied and harassed. When I stood up to it all I was ostracised and then selected for redundancy! When I decided to take it further I was not believed! The stress and trauma I endured has had a detrimental affect on my health leaving me with the chronic illness 'Fibromyalgia', thus having an impact on my ability to parent.

And I want my sons to grow up believing in equality and having the courage to practice it because they see how everybody benefits.

Muslim women are often seen as being oppressed to the point that women around the world see us as having no voice of our own. Add "Pakistani" to the mix and you get a picture of desperate women crying out for Western saviors to come and free us from our patriarchal society. However, we are not all docile creatures under the thumb of the men in our lives - we can and do speak up for ourselves, but our voices are often lost behind those of white feminists. Women equality is both a global and a personal issue - we are all trying our best, as individuals, to do whatever we can for the women throughout the world. This means that a Pakistani Muslim woman's voice is just as important as any other woman on the planet. It is no doubt that Pakistani and Muslim women often suffer from the worst kinds of misogyny, but we are just as capable, if not more, for standing up for these women as a white woman. Movements like WPE affect women on a global scale and so, as a Pakistani woman, I support it with all my heart .

When will the pay gap change? Why do people assume that a woman has the support of a male partner's income. I'm a single person on a woman's wage and its barely enough to cover my rent. Why do we live in a world where plumbers earn more than care workers and does that suggest that we care more about our heating than our elderly and disabled relatives? More about objects than people? I don't work in a traditionally female industry but to me this seems that women's work is valued less because its done more often by women, not because of the skill level. Caring and interacting with vulnerable people is highly skilled work.

because politics and life can overlook us and miss us out and that is bad for everyone. Because I wanted an inclusive party in politics. Because some people seem confused about feminism and the fact it's good for everyone for women to be seen as equals in life.

The pace of change has been too slow and now with 2 small granddaughters to campaign for as well, I am sure our joint energy, enthusiasm and commitment must make the UK a better place to grow up and flourish.
