"Sometimes ideas change the world. This astonishing, miraculous, shattering, inspiring book captures the origins and the arc of the movement for sex equality. It’s a book whose time has come - always, but perhaps now more than ever.”

Leeds Branch of the Women's Equality Party will be holding the next in our series of 'Culture Club', our regular book and film discussion group, on Tuesday 23 March 2021 at 7.30pm online via Zoom.

Our book of the evening is Butterfly Politics by Catharine A. MacKinnon.

"Butterfly Politics shows how Catharine A. MacKinnon turned discrimination law into an effective tool against sexual abuse―grounding and predicting the worldwide #MeToo movement―and proposes concrete steps that could have further butterfly effects on women’s rights."

"MacKinnon adapts a concept from chaos theory in which the tiny motion of a butterfly’s wings can trigger a tornado half a world away. Under the right conditions, she posits, small actions can produce major social transformations."

We will also be discussing the film Bridesmaids (available on Netflix).

If you would like to read ahead, April's book is The Testaments by Margaret Atwood.

You are welcome to join us, whether or not you have read the book or watched the film.
