Feel the need for some escapism? How about hanging out with the goddesses of Ancient Greece?
Leeds Branch of the Women's Equality Party are hosting the next in our series of 'Culture Club' on Thursday 23rd April 2020 at 19:30 (please note change of date from that originally publicised). This is our regular book and film night. Given the current stay at home policy we'll be meeting online via Zoom.
We'll be discussing the book Circe, by Madeline Miller. "A bold and subversive story of the Greek goddess". In Miller's feminist retelling of Homer's classic, the Odyssey, Circe becomes a hero in her own right. She is the daughter of Helios, the Sun God and Perse, a nymph with no powers of her own, or so everyone thought ...
We'll also talk about the film I, Tonya, staring Margot Robbie (available on Netflix), documenting the life of talented figure skater Tonya Harding, who in 1991, becomes the first American woman to complete a triple axel during a competition. However her world comes crashing down when her ex-husband conspires to injure Nancy Kerrigan, a fellow Olympic hopeful, in a poorly conceived attack that forces the young woman to withdraw from the national championship.
You're welcome to join us, whether or not you've read the book or seen the film. Use this link to Start Zoom Meeting Here Meeting ID: 844 421 488
