Officers of the Cheshire East branch of the Women’s Equality Party are congratulating their Branch Leader and Congleton Town Councillor Kay Wesley for being shortlisted in the Northern Power Women Awards 2022.
The winners will be announced at a gala awards and dinner taking place this evening (Monday) at the Manchester Central Convention Complex.
Out of almost 1400 nominations from across the North, Kay, the Women’s Equality Party‘s very first representative elected in 2019, is one of eight finalists in the category of ‘Disruptor for Good’
Awarded to the individual who is unafraid to crack on, shift the dial, and make real impact, in memory of the late Professor Jane Turner OBE DL.
“Disruptor for Good is a perfect description for Kay”, says Deborah Crawford, Comms Lead for the Women’s Equality Party Cheshire East branch. “Her passion to reduce Male Violence against Women & Girls has really made an impact for the residents of Congleton.
Prior to Kay’s election the subject was never discussed by the Town Council as if the problem did not exist. Kay shone a light on the topic by chairing a working group, asking Cheshire Police to report regularly, and acting as a link to the charity sector. The group obtained funding and implemented a Domestic Abuse clinic serving residents. As part of this work the Council became accredited with White Ribbon UK and Kay regularly volunteers her time as a White Ribbon Champion to support the local group of male White Ribbon Ambassadors.
This is just one of the causes that Kay champions. As a member of Town Council cross-party committees and trustee of a variety of community groups, she champions equality with enormous energy and drive, and practices what she preaches as CEO of Kanga Health Ltd, a Congleton based company with work-life balance policies and health initiatives for staff, which also generously supports local community activities.
Kay is determined to keep equality at the forefront of everyone’s minds. Her influence is certainly changing attitudes, perceptions and behaviours and is an inspiration to us all.”
